I am looking at buying a e39a vr4 and am unsure if there is any difference between the jap spec and aus versions other than cosmetic?

I would prefur a jap spec because as far as im concerned they are better looking cars due to the different bumpers but unless I import one they are hard to come across for a decent price.

Can anyone please inform me if the jap spec bumpers fit onto the aus version or are the mounts different? also is the power output the same on both vehicles?

If there is anything else I my need to know any information would be much appreciated

Cheers

Hi Patrick,

I have an Aussie delivered VR4, the Jap spec versions come with 179Kw compared to the Aussie 148Kw, this may also have some bearing on the fact that the Japanese can get hold of higher octane fuel than us so a Jap spec here may deliver a little less.

Can't comment on the bumpers other than it is unlikely they would change the tooling for the mountings so my guess would be that the bumpers would be interchangeable, in fact I am sure I saw an article in one of the mags where a NZ guy used the jap spec bumpers on his car.

Hope this helps.

I think the Jap versions had a green/orange dash lighting option as well? You could choose what color backlight the gauges have. There is also the RS version which had some weight stripped out for rallying. Not sure if there were any driveline differences.
